North Carolina senior midfielder Abby Martin has earned ACC Player of the Week honors in field hockey after notching four goals and three assists for the Tar Heels in two victories last week. Martin scored two goals and added one assist to help North Carolina to a 3-1 victory over Penn State, a team ranked ninth in Hockey Point's preseason poll.
The Tar Heels, ranked first in the same poll, finished off their perfect week by tallying a school record 13 goals to hand Virginia Commonwealth a 13-0 loss. Martin, from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., added two goals and two assists to give her a team-leading five goals and 13 points on the season.
Carolina returns to action this weekend at the Temple Invitational in Philadelphia. UNC will face No. 4 Michigan on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and either Temple or Maine on Sunday.
