UNC Golfers Finish 10th at Birkdale Classic

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's golf team did not have the opportunity to move up in the standings at the Birkdale Collegiate Classic because tournament officials cut the event short due to inclement whether. The Tar Heels had to settle for a tenth place finish after a two-round total of nine-over-par, 585. Ramon Bescansa had his best finish of the season. The Junior from Santiago, Spain finished in a five-way tie for fifth after shooting a one-under-par 71 and a two-under-par, 70. Fellow Tar Heel teammates Bob Cherry and Dustin Bray finished the two rounds at three-over-par,147, while Brad Moldin and Jeremy Elliott finished at 151 and 154, respectively.
Wake Forest, who currently ranks third in the Golf Coaches Association poll, captured the tournament title. The Demon Deacons finished six-under-par 570 on the 7,013, par 72 Birkdale course.The University of Missouri captured sole possession of second after carding four-under-par 572, while Georgia Southern and Virginia tied for third at 574. Baylor University rounded out the top five in team standing, carding a one-under-par, 575.
ill Haas of Wake Forest took top individual honors with his two-round total of six-under- par 138. Old Dominion's Geoffrey Harris and Virginia's Steve Marino finished one stroke behind the leader and tied for second with scores of 69 and 70, 139. Mark McBride of captured fourth place at 140.
The Tar Heels will next see action on March 23 and 24 at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational.
