UNC Men's Golf In 14th Place After 2nd Round

STATESBORO, GA. -- The University of North Carolina men's golf team played the opening two rounds of the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational, finishing the day in 14th place. Carolina posted a team score of 298 in both rounds for a total of 596.
Augusta State University shot a four-under-par 284 in the morning round and followed it with a 285 in the afternoon to lead with a seven-under total of 569. Wake Forest is in second place and is the only other team with a sub-par score at 573. Clemson and Duke each total 569 and are tied for third.
D.J. Trahan of Clemson fired consecutive rounds of three-under 69 and holds the individual lead with a 138 total. Trahan holds a two-shot lead over Wake Forest's Bill Haas, North Carolina State's Justin Walters and Augusta State's Michael Webb. Augusta State's Jay Haas and Wake's Chris Yoder are just four shots off the pace and round out the top five. Duke's Brandon LaCroix carded a hole-in-one on the 130-yard, par-three sixth hole. It was the first ace at the Schenkel since the tournament's rebirth in 1999.
For UNC, junior Ramon Bescansa shot rounds of 74 and 73 for a total of 147 and is currently tied for 34th. Jeremy Elliott shot 75, 74 for a total of 149 and a tie for 48th place. Junior Bob Cherry and sophomore Dustin Bray tied for 57th with a totals of 150. Junior Brad Moldin posted rounds of 80 and 76 and finished in a tie for 71st at 156.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday and is being played at the Forest Heights Country Club.
