Four Tar Heels Named To Field Hockey Academic Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Four University of North Carolina field hockey players have been named to the Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). To earn a spot on the team, players must carry an overall GPA of 3.30 or better and be a starter or key reserve.
Tar Heels named to the team for the 2001 field hockey season were senior Susan Hayes, sophomore Alison Stewart and freshmen Carey Fetting-Smith and Kelsey Keeran.
Hayes, a team captain in her senior year, started all 21 games for the 2001 Tar Heels, who finished 14-7. Fetting-Smith started 20 games and played in all 21, scoring two goals and adding five assists. Keeran started 19 games and was fourth on the team with seven goals. Stewart started seven games at back for the Tar Heels and played in 16.
Hayes, a communication major, had a 3.4 GPA through the fall semester. Stewart, a psychology major, posted a 3.3 overall GPA. Fetting-Smith compiled a 3.43 average and Keeran a 3.57 in the fall semester, the first at UNC for both student-athletes.
Other Atlantic Coast Conference players named to the team were: Duke-Chrissy Ashley, Liz Bateman, Jessica Fluck, Kim Goagola, Angie North, Erica Perrier and Emily Sinkhorn, Maryland-Kristin Harris, Kerry Hearsey, Ashley Hohnstine, Angie Klingerman, Carissa Messimer, Lucy Morris, Carol Senkler, Courtney Thornton, Caroline Walter and Autumn Welsh, Virginia-Carrie Goodloe, Wake Forest-Kathryn Kubic, Lynne Shenk
