Bray Reaches Semifinals Of U.S. Amateur

Bloomfield Hills, Mich. - University of North Carolina junior Dustin Bray reached the semifinals of the U.S. Men's Amateur Championship on Friday with a 4-and-3 victory over Ryan Moore, the current U.S. Amateur Public Links champion. The tournament is being played at the famed 6,988-yard, par-70 South Course at Oakland Hills Country Club.
ray, a native of Asheboro, N.C., will face Hunter Mahan of McKinney, Texas in one of Saturday's semifinal matches. The other match will pit Wake Forest's ill Haas against Ricky Barnes of Stockton, Calif. NBC will carry the matches beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Mahan defeated Henry Liaw 3 and 2 in his Friday match.
ray and Moore were even after six holes before Bray's birdie on the par four seventh hole gave him the lead for good. Bray's par three on the ninth hole gave him a two-up lead at the turn.
Consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th holes gave Bray a four up lead with four holes to play. Bray closed out the match with a par four that halved the 15th hole.
ray is the current ACC Men's Golf champion and a second-team All America.
