Tar Heel Golfers Finish Second at Bank Of Tennessee Intercollegiate

JONESBOROUGH, TENN.-- North Carolina's golf team fired a one-over-par 289 total, the low round of the day, to jump into second place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges. The Tar Heels posted a three-day 878 total, two strokes behind Wake Forest's 876. Tar Heel junior Dustin Bray fired an even par 72 to finish at one-under 215 in a five-way tie for medalist honors with Wake Forest's Bill Haas, Duke's Leif Olson, Tennessee's Ian Pamaby and TCU's David Schultz.
In the team race, TCU finished in third place behind the Tar Heels with an 882 total. Duke posted a fourth-place finish with an 883 total while South Carolina finished fifth at 884 and host East Tennessee State finished sixth at 886.
Tar Heel freshman Kevin Silva fired a four-under 68 in the final round to finish with a 220 total in 17th place. Jeremy Elliott tied for 18th place with a 221 total while Bob Cherry tied for 42nd place at 227 and Ramon Bescansa tied for 46th with a 228 total. This marked the second time in as many tournaments this fall that Bray either captured or tied for medalist honors. Earlier, he won the individual title at The International Collegiate in St. Andrews, Scotland.
The 54-hole event was played at The Ridges Golf and Country Club which features a par 72 layout. Carolina concludes its fall season Sept. 27-29 at the Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, Ga.
