GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Kelsey Keeran was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week Monday after leading the Tar Heels to a pair of victories over ranked opponents last weekend. The junior forward scored a goal in each game for North Carolina.
Keeran also was named the Division I National Player of the Week by Womensfieldhockey.com.
Against No. 4 Duke on Friday, Keeran registered a goal to help North Carolina collect its first conference win of the season. In Sunday's game versus No. 8 Penn State, the Sunbury, Ohio, native scored the first of three second-half goals by the Tar Heels to erase a two-goal deficit and go on to the 3-2 victory over the Nittany Lions.
Keeran leads the team in scoring this season with 30 points (12 goals, six assists). She also earned ACC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 22.
Keeran and the No. 2 Tar Heels (11-1, 1-1 ACC) return to action this weekend when they travel to play at Appalachian State on Friday and at Virginia on Sunday.
