CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Six members of the 2002 North Carolina field hockey team have earned spots on the 2003 U.S. Under-23 and Under-20 teams., announced Wednesday following A Camp tryouts in Virginia Beach, Va.
Tar Heels named to the Under-23 team were Kerry Falgowski, Kelsey Keeran, Meredith Keller and Katy Potter. Falgowski is a new addition to the team, while the other three were members of the squad in 2002. Under-23 team members will practice with the U.S. national team throughout the year to continue their preparations for a possible spot on the senior team roster.
Both Carolina players who earned spots on the Under-20 team, Brooke Miller and Katy Tran, were also on the 2002 roster. This year's squad team will compete in the U.S. Field Hockey Summer League, as well as the JFK International Tournament in Virginia Beach.
The six Tar Heels were among 86 collegiate and high school players who participated in A Camp Feb. 14-17. Athletes earned invitations to A Camp through performances in U.S. Field Hockey programs such as junior teams, B Camp, U.S. Field Hockey Summer League and the National Hockey Festival.
Falgowski, Keeran and Potter all will be juniors on the 2003 UNC squad. Keller played her final season for the Tar Heels in 2002, earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference, All-ACC Tournament and second-team All-America honors.
Neither Miller nor Tran saw action during the 2002 campaign, and both will count the season as a redshirt year. Miller will be a redshirt freshman this fall and Tran a redshirt sophomore.
