Tipoff: No. 6 UNC hosts Coastal Carolina, Feb. 24
The University of North Carolina women's basketball team (23-3 overall, 12-2 ACC) steps out of Atlantic Coast Conference play Monday night for a home game against Coastal Carolina (10-13, 5-9 Big South). Tipoff is 7 p.m. at Carmichael Auditoroium.
The Tar Heels are ranked sixth in both the Associated Press poll and the ESPN/USA Today/WBCA coaches' poll. Coastal Carolina is not ranked.
Next up for UNC is the final home game of the regular season. The Tar Heels will host Maryland Thursday at Carmichael Auditorium. Tipoff is 7 p.m., and the Carolina seniors will be honored before the game.

Monday's game will be broadcast live on the Tar Heel Radio Network. The flagship station is 1360-AM WCHL. Stephen Gates is Carolina's play-by-play announcer and Jones Angell provides color commentary.

* UNC leads the series with Coastal Carolina 6-0. The teams' most recent meeting was during the 2000-01 season, when the Tar Heels won 72-54 on Feb. 14, 2001.
* With one three-pointer against Duke on Thursday, Coretta Brown moved into a tie for second place on UNC's career three-pointers list. With a total of 227, she is tied with Stephanie Lawrence (1992-95).
* Coretta Brown recently was named a finalist for three national awards. She is one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, given to the country's top senior player. She is one of 12 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given to the nation's top point guard. And she is one of 20 finalists for the Naismith Player of the Year Award.

Scouting the Coastal Carolina Lady Chanticleers
Coastal Carolina is 10-13 on the season and 5-9 in Big South Conference play following a 63-51 homecourt loss to Birmingham Southern on Saturday. Coastal, which shot 32.7 percent from the field, was led in scoring by Nikki Reddick, who poured in 26 points. No other Lady Chanticleer scored more than eight. Reddick, a junior guard, also had five rebounds, five steals and four assists in playing all 40 minutes.
On the season, Reddick averages 19.8 points per game, more than double that of the next highest scorer. Sophomore forward Courtney Brown averages 9.4 points per game and junior center Crystal Brown scores 8.2 and leads the team in rebounding with 7.3 boards per game. Reddick is the team's leader in assists with 3.4 per game.
The Lady Chants are coached by Alan LeForce, who is in his sixth season with the program.
* UNC and Coastal have played two common opponents this season, East Tennessee State and Elon. Both teams beat East Tennessee State, UNC 106-40 and Coastal 72-62. UNC defeated Elon 83-50, while Coastal has lost twice to the Phoenix, 60-50 in overtime in the first matchup and 74-58 in the second.
The North Carolina-Coastal Carolina series
Monday's game will be the seventh meeting in the series between North Carolina and Coastal Carolina. UNC has won all six of the previous games, the most recent a 72-54 win at Carmichael Auditorium on Feb. 14, 2001. That 18-point margin made for the closest game in the history of the series. UNC has won the six games by an average margin of 37.7. points.
* UNC is 3-0 this season against "Carolina" schools. The Tar Heels have defeated North Carolina State on two occasions and also have beaten South Carolina.

No. 2 Duke 97, No. 6 North Carolina 63
DURHAM, N.C. - UNC suffered its first road loss of the season and its largest margin of defeat in three years, 97-63 at Cameron Indoor Stadium Thursday evening. The Blue Devils led throughout the game and finished with the highest scoring total and best shooting percentage (53.8) by an UNC opponent this season.
Four Duke players scored in double figures, led by Iciss Tillis, who had 21 points and also paced her team with 10 rebounds.
Nikita Bell led the Tar Heels with 14 points and Leah Metcalf added 13. Kenya McBee came off the bench to score a season-high 12 and lead the team in rebounds with seven.
UNC finished with a season-low 32 rebounds and was beaten on the boards for the second game on a row, 41-32.
