Senior midfielder Laura Douglas has been named ACC Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Wake Forest's Kelly Dostal.
Douglas scored the winning goal in overtime as UNC beat Maryland 2-1 Saturday to finish Atlantic Coast Conference play 4-0 and earn the top seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament. In College Park, Md., the Tar Heels trailed 1-0 at halftime but tied the score early in the second half. Douglas's goal, assisted by Rachel Dawson, came with just over three minutes to play in the first sudden-death overtime period.
Dostal had three goals and three assists in Demon Deacon wins over Radford and Virginia.
Douglas is the third UNC player to earn the ACC honor this season. Junior forward Karen Mann was honored on Aug. 30 and Dawson, a sophomore midfielder, won Oct. 4.
On the season, Douglas leads UNC in assists with 11 and has four goals. With 19 points, she ranks third on the team in scoring.
Carolina, now 17-1 and ranked No. 2 in the nation, finished out the regular season with a game Saturday at No. 7 Old Dominion.
