WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Karen Mann and senior Kelsey Keeran scored two goals each Sunday afternoon as the Carolina field hockey team beat Iowa 5-0 at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Tar Heels beat Michigan 3-2 Saturday in the first game of the weekend event.
Freshman Anne Marie Janus opened the scoring just over 10 minutes into the game with her first career goal, assisted by redshirt freshman Heather Kendell. Mann's goals both came on penalty corners, the first assisted by sophomore Rachel Dawson at the 25-minute mark and by senior Kerry Falgowski at the 29-minute mark.
Keeran scored twice in the second half, assisted by sophomore Laree Beans and by Falgowski.
Next up for the Tar Heels is the Temple Invitational next weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. In Saturday's opening game, UNC will meet Iowa again while the host Owls play American. On Sunday, Carolina will face either Temple or American.
