Karen Mann Named Hardee's Carolina Student-Athlete of the Week

CHAPEL HILL -- Junior forward Karen Mann scored four goals in two games to lead the UNC field hockey team to a pair of wins in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and earned the inaugural Hardee's Carolina Student Athlete of the Week award for 2004.
Mann also was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week for field hockey.
Mann, a native of Vancouver, B.C., scored her first two goals in a 3-2 win over Michigan on Saturday and added two more in Sunday's 5-0 win over Iowa as the Tar Heels improved to 2-0 on the season.

Playing in only her second college game, Jaime Gilbert scored three goals
and set up the fourth goal as the Tar Heels defeated California 4-2 Sunday
to cap a 2-0 weekend in the adidas Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. Gilbert
scored her three goals, one in the first half and two in the second half, on
only five shots and she was responsible for setting up the fourth goal when
she was fouled in the penalty area and UNC teammate Kacey White converted
the ensuing penalty kick.
