Tar Heels Drop ACC Match to Ramblin' Wreck

The University of North Carolina volleyball team dropped a three-game decision to Georgia Tech Friday night in Atlanta, 34-32, 30-26, 30-26. Senior Molly Pyles led the Tar Heels with 11 kills and 10 assists, while junior Dani Nyenhuis added 14 kills.
UNC (6-7, 1-1 ACC) had its best opportunity to take a game in the first frame. The Tar Heels had a game point at 29-28, but squandered the opportunity and eventually lost, 34-32. Game one was the best of the night offensively for Carolina, during which the team hit .216. For the match, the Yellow Jackets (6-5, 1-0 ACC) outhit UNC .255 to .186.
While Georgia Tech's hitting percentage went up as the match progressed, Carolina's fell off rapidly. In the third and final game, Tech finished with a .302 to .146 advantage.
Carolina was bolstered by its play at the net, outblocking the Yellow Jackets 13 to six. Digging the ball was another story, however, as Georgia Tech had four players with double-figure digs, led by Marisa Aston's 16 and Lynnette Moster's 15. Moster also led Tech in kills with 25. For the match, UNC was outdug by 25, 73-48.
The Tar Heels will look to move back to the .500 mark overall tomorrow night as they travel up to Clemson, S.C., to face the homestanding Tigers. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
