Tar Heels Earn Academic Honor

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina field hockey team has been honored with a National Academic Team Award from the NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) and four UNC players have been named to the National Academic Squad.
The Tar Heels were honored as one of 52 teams nationally with a GPA of better than a 3.0 for the fall semester. The team GPA for North Carolina, which claimed the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, was 3.07.
Rachel Dawson, Kerry Falgowski, Heather Kendell and Katy Tran earned spots on the National Academic Squad, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better. Falgowski was a senior on the 2004 squad, while Tran is a rising senior, Dawson a rising junior and Kendell a rising sophomore in eligibility. Falgowski and Tran earned the honor for the third year in a row. Dawson and Kendell were honored for the second time.
