Former Volleyball Great Sharon German Dies At 37

Sharon Denise German, the 1989 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in volleyball, died this week at the age of 37. She was Carolina's first ACC Player of the Year, a three-time first-team All-ACC selection and a third-team Volleyball Magazine All-America.
German was a four-year letterwinner at UNC from 1986-89 and her 1,937 career kills is the highest total in Carolina history. After leaving UNC, she continued to participate in volleyball. She was a member of the USA Volleyball All-Region teams for the Carolina region in 1997 and 1998 and served on the USAV Carolina Region Board of Directors from 1999-2002.
Funeral services will be held in Bennettsville, S.C., on Monday, Jan. 23.
