CHAPEL HILL --- Rashanda McCants poured in 17 points in just 11 minutes to lead North Carolina past Premier Players 94-69 in a Tuesday night exhibition game at Carmichael Auditorium. Alex Miller added a team-high 20 points for the Tar Heels, who led by 25 at the half and shot 53 percent from the floor on the night.
Former Tar Heel Leah Metcalf, one of three alums on the Premier Players roster, led all scorers with 26. Erlana Larkins added a double-double for Carolina with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Camille Little also had 10 rebounds to go with nine points for Carolina. Former Minnesota standout Katie Alsdurf had nine points for Premier Players, while former Tar Heels Kenya McBee and Nikita Bell each had six.
UNC held Premier Players to 26.8 percent from the field in the first half and never trailed. The Tar Heel lead swelled to 30 at 65-35 with 15:18 remaining before the visitors went on a 21-9 run over seven minutes to cut the deficit to 74-56. But a 10-2 run capped by a Trinity Bursey bucket effectively ended it.
Bursey and Jessica Breland saw their first action as Tar Heels and combined for 10 points and six rebounds.
Ivory Latta had nine points and a game-high 10 assists.
UNC's second and final exhibition game will be Sunday afternoon against Carson-Newman. Tipoff at Carmichael Auditorium is 2 p.m. and there is no charge for admission. North Carolina opens the regular season on Nov. 10 with a home game against East Tennessee State.
