CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three North Carolina field hockey players have been named to the 2005 Division I National Academic Squad, announced this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Rachel Dawson, Heather Kendell and Katy Tran earned the honor, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better through the fall semester.
Tran, a senior and first-team All-America in 2005, earned the honor for the fourth year in a row. She graduated from UNC in December with a degree in biology and exercise and sport science.
Dawson, a rising senior who is majoring in business, earned the honor for the third time in her career. Kendell, who is a rising junior in eligibility and is majoring in exercise and sport science, also earned the honor for the third time.
All three players also earned spots on the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, announced last month by the league.
