Blue Ridge Open (Men's A & Women's B)

Men Place Fourth At Blue Ridge Open

Boone, N.C. - The North Carolina cross country teams competed at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. on Friday afternoon as the men's team took home fourth place overall. The women's B team competed on the women's side placing seventh as the women's A team will run at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terra Haute, Ind. on Saturday.
Alex Ray paced the men for the fourth consecutive race as he finished 12th overall in a time of 25:02. Not far behind Ray was Zack Dawson placing 16th overall just six seconds behind on the 8K course. Ian Bracy was back for Carolina after missing the previous two races with an injury and finished third for the Tar Heels in a time of 25:17, placing three runners within just 15 seconds of each other. Closing out the scoring for the Tar Heels was Tristram Thomas who crossed the line in 25:28 for 29th place. Thomas was 12 seconds ahead of Nick Hutchins who ran the course in 25:40 good for 33rd place overall.
Carolina finished with 51 total points which slotted the Tar Heels into fourth place behind Texas (20 pts), Duke (37 pts) and Appalachian State (32 pts).
The women's B team ran a solid team race as Kristy Longman finished 24th just ahead of fellow Tar Heels Caley Booth and Emily Hoffman who took home 26th and 27th, respectively. Longman finished in a time of 19:13, while Booth and Hoffman were just a second behind her. Alexis Deegan finished 35th in a time of 19:24 and Becky Johnson finished out the scoring crossing in a time of 20:36 for 81st place. The Carolina B side finished with 193 points for the seventh place finish.
The men's team will gear up for the ACC Championships to be held in two weeks (Oct. 27) in Charlottesville, Va. The women's A team will race in the NCAA Pre-national meet on Saturday before the two week hiatus before the ACCs.
