The Redshirt Reports
November 14, 2007 | Field Hockey
The North Carolina field hockey team, 22-0 and ranked No. 1 in the nation, departed from Chapel Hill on Wednesday, headed for College Park, Md., and the NCAA final four. Four freshmen - Teryn Brill, Louise McNutt, Colleen Murphy and Elizabeth Stephens - will provide Tar Heel fans with regular updates on the team in the form of the Redshirt Reports. (All four are redshirting this season, which is to say they have not seen any game action and will have four years of eligibility remaining.)
Check back regularly for new updates:

Hey Tar Heel Fans!
Today has been a relaxing day in preparation for the game tomorrow. We had breakfast and a light practice, and then we headed back to the hotel for lunch. We had the afternoon free to relax, study, and spend time with our families. We had dinner as usual, and now we are hanging out and getting ready for bed.
Everyone is nervous, but very excited to play Penn State! It is a great feeling to know that we have earned every single game we could possibly play in this season. Even though tomorrow is our last game, it has given the team great confidence that we have played to our potential and we are ending our season at the latest date possible. Like Coach said at our meeting tonight, tomorrow is the most important game of the season. It is what we have been working so hard for since August, and everyone is ready to play!
We are hoping to win a national championship, but we know it will be tough. Be sure to tune in to CSTV at noon tomorrow and cheer on the Heels!

Hi Tar Heel Fans!
The past 24 hours have been pretty exciting for the Tar Heels! Last night we had a great time at the Final Four Banquet at the University of Maryland. We were fortunate enough to hear from the banquet's featured speaker Christine Brennan from USA Today. After her inspirational message, a senior from each of the four teams gave a few words about their great memories, teammates, and experience in the field hockey world.
This afternoon, we departed from the hotel excited for the game against UConn. We arrived at the field early enough to relax and hang out in the locker room before the game. Although the game was cold and windy, the Tar Heels fought a great battle and came out the victor against UConn 4-2. Our parents put on an amazing tailgate to celebrate the win which was so much fun! And we also celebrated Coach's birthday which added to the festivities!
This weekend has been great, and everyone is thrilled for Sunday! After a light practice and relaxing time tomorrow, we will be ready for the championship game on Sunday. Stay tuned, and until next time, Go Heels!

Hi Tar Heel fans!
The Redshirts are here reporting from College Park, Maryland, one day closer to the first fame of the Final Four! Practice this morning was rainy and cold, but we had a great practice and everyone is excited for tomorrow! After doing our usual pre-game practice, Coach Shelton and the rest of the coaching staff was pleased with our preparation.
We returned to the hotel, showered, and had lunch. After lunch, we had a team meeting and watched video to prepare for tomorrow's game. We know that beating UConn will be a tough battle, but the team is ready and willing to take on the Huskies!
Tonight is the Final Four banquet which we are all so excited about! Stay tuned and get ready for the big game tomorrow! Go Heels!

Hi Tar Heels fans!
This is Louise checking in from College Park. We left Chapel Hill by bus at 4 this afternoon and we were sent off by Carolina Fever and the UNC fencing team, as well as some other fans and members of the athletic department. We arrived here around 8:45 and had a light dinner of salad and soup. Now the whole team is in their rooms just studying and relaxing, getting ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow morning, we're waking up and having breakfast and then going to practice at 9.
Everyone is really excited and pumped for the tournament. We're looking forward to the final four banquet tomorrow night then the big game against UConn on Friday!
That's about it for now. Stay tuned for more!
