UNC Trio Named To National Academic Squad

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three North Carolina field hockey players have been named to the 2006 Division I National Academic Squad, announced this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Riley Foster , Heather Kendell and Brianna O'Donnell earned the honor, which requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or better through the fall semester.
Foster, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, is majoring in nursing. She started at back in all 22 games last season and was named second-team All-South Region.
Kendell, a junior exercise and sport science major from Chapel Hill, is a forward/midfielder and started 20 games last season for the Tar Heels, which finished the season 13-9. She was named to the National Academic Squad for the fourth time in her career.
O'Donnell, a freshman from Collegeville, Pa., is majoring in journalism. She started at goalkeeper in every game last season and was named All-Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and second-team All-South Region.
All three players also earned spots on the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Team, announced last month by the league.
