GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC freshman Charlotte Verstraten has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week following her performance in Saturday's Tar Heel win over third-ranked Wake Forest. Verstraten, a forward from the Netherlands, shares the honor with Maryland's Emma Thomas.
After a scoreless 20 minutes in the top-five ACC battle, Verstraten scored her first career goal to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead. After a 2-2 tie at halftime, she assisted on what would prove to be the gamewinning goal by classmate Taryn Gjurich. The fourth-ranked Tar Heels went on to a 4-3 victory to improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Next up for the Tar Heels is a trip to Boston. They'll face ACC rival Boston College Friday in Newton, Mass., then stay for a neutral-site matchup with Yale there on Sunday.
