Tar Heel Trio Named All-America

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Three North Carolina field hockey players have capped the 2008 season with All-America honors, as announced Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Senior Britt van Beek, junior Illse Davids and sophomore Katelyn Falgowski all were named to the All-America second team.
The All-America honor is the first for van Beek and Davids, while Falgowski also was named to the second team in 2007. All three were named to the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference team and to the All-South Region first team.
Van Beek, a midfielder from Den Bosch, the Netherlands, started every game during her senior season, when she served as the team captain. She played in all 87 games during her Carolina career, scoring 37 goals. This season, she ranked second on the team with a career-high 11.
Davids, a midfielder from Plumstead, South Africa, ranked third on the 2008 team with nine goals and tied for the team lead in assists with seven.
Falgowski, a midfielder from Landenberg, Pa., started all 20 games and finished the season with four goals and three assists.
The Tar Heels finished the 2008 campaign 14-6, falling to Michigan State 3-2 in an NCAA Tournament first-round game on Nov. 15.
