Illse Davids Named Progress Energy Performer Of The Week

CHAPEL HILL - Illse Davids scored three goals in UNC's two field hockey wins and is the Oprogress Energy Tar Heel of the Week for October 27-November 1, 2008. At Old Dominion on Saturday, Davids scored the game-winner in the sixth minute of play and Carolina went on to a 3-1 victory. At home against Davidson on Sunday, Davids scored the game's second and third goals within three minutes of each other in the first half. The Tar Heels beat the Wildcats 9-0. Davids, a junior from Plumstead, South Africa, ranks third on the team with nine goals this fall and she leads the team with seven assists.

Megan McMullin, a junior from Burke, Va., and Katie Wood, a senior from Cornelius, N.C., earned three top-10 finishes at last weekend's Head of the Chattahoochee regatta. On Saturday, McMullin and Wood were part of the Tar Heel four that took fifth overall in its race and the Carolina eight that finished ninth. On Sunday, the UNC rowers teamed to take fourth in the pairs. The regatta wrapped up fall racing for the Tar Heel squad.

Men's Swimming
Sophomore, Richmond, Va.
Sophomore Tyler Harris has a dynaminte performance in Carolina's tough loss to a No. 9-ranked Minnesota side. Harris won three individual events, anchored the second-place 800 free relay with the relay's second best split at 1:39.89 and also took fourth in the 200 fly. Harris won the 400 IM by over 5 seconds over the second place finisher. His time of 3:51.17 was his fastest time in the event unsgaved and untapered in his career while also earning an NCAA B qualifyiong time. He also took top honors in the 200 IM in 1:50.40, besting the rest of the field by 1.39 seconds. He outtouched his Golden Gopher opponnent in the 200-yard breaststroke by .08 of second to win in 2:01.72. The time was the second fastest in Harris' career in the 200 breast.

Women's Diving
Senior, Woodbury, Minn.
Tar Heel diver Erica Schiffler was one of only two two-event winners for the North Carolina women's swimming and diving team as she swept the two diving boards against her former Golden Gopher teammates in UNC's dual meet against #11 Minnesota. Schiffler won the one-meter board with a score of 258.75 and the three-meter board with a score of 255.30.
