Select Tar Heel Men Compete At Wolfpack Invite

CARY, N.C. - Five Tar Heel runners competed at the Wolfpack Invite in Cary, N.C. Saturday as unattached runners and Matthew Kiplagat led the contingent with a 13th place finish in the 5K race as he clocked a time of 16:01.
Andrew Rotz finished just four spots behind Kiplagat as he crossed the line in 16:16 for 17th place. Junior Adam Smith placed 27th in the event with a time of 16:55 before Nick Krouse closed out the Tar Heel contingent with a 42nd overall finish in a time of 18:32.
The race also featured runners who are redshirting during the cross country season in anticipation for the upcoming indoor track season which is set to begin January 13, 2009 with the Tar Heel Invitational.
The cross country teams will be in action in a week when they travel to Clemmons, N.C. for the NCAA Southeast Regional and a shot to advance to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. set for Nov. 24.
