Tar Heels Playing For Olympic Berth

Six Tar Heels are part of the USA Field Hockey team playing at the Olympic Qualifier in Kazan, Russia, in hopes of earning a berth in the 2008 Summer Games. Competition opened on April 19 and will wrap up on the 27th.

Tuesday, April 22: U.S. 7, France 0
Kate Barber had the U.S. team's only first-half goal, but the squad came up with six goals in the second half to roll to a second 7-0 win in a row. Tar Heel Rachel Dawson had one of those goals. For a recap of the game and photos, click here.
Sunday, April 20: U.S. 7, Russia 0
The U.S. team scored five goals in the first 16 minutes of play and rolled to a 7-0 win over the host team. Carrie Lingo was among the goal scorers for the Americans. In other Tar Heel news, the game marked the 200th cap for Kate Barber, the team captain.

Saturday, April 19: U.S. 3, Belgium 2
Jesse Gey, a senior on Carolina's 2007 NCAA title squad, scored her first international goal as the U.S. won its opening game. Tar Heel alum Carrie Lingo had the game's first goal. Click here
