Tar Heels Claim Fourth Place At Dallas Classic

Dallas, Texas - Led by Chip Peterson's second place finish and NCAA `B' qualifying time in the 500-yard freestyle, the 14th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heel men remained in fourth place at the Dallas Morning News Classic in Dallas, Texas.
In a competitive field, second-ranked Michigan won the meet with 346 points, followed closely in second by the University of Florida with 311 points. Southern Methodist University grabbed third place with 272 points and Carolina placed fourth with 256 points. Rounding out the field in fifth and sixth places were Arizona State University with 227 points and the University of Southern California with 223 points.
In the opening event of the evening, the Tar Heel men's 200-medley relay team of Tommy Wyher, Vinny Pryor, Brad Hamilton and Steve Cebertowicz swam to a fourth place finish in 1:31.87
Redshirt sophomore Chip Peterson led the Tar Heels in the 500-yard freestyle with a second place finish and season best time of 4:20.79, an NCAA B qualifying time. Freshman Evan Reed swam to ninth place in the consolation final with a time of 4:27.48.
In the men's 200-yard breaststroke sophomore Vinny Pryor claimed fifth place in 2:02.76. Fellow sophomore teammate Tyler Harris placed ninth in the consolation final in 2:00.88.
Junior Jeff James swam to fifth place in the men's 200-yard backstroke in 1:48.74 while sophomore Tommy Wyher placed ninth in 1:48.17.
In the men's 3-meter diving event junior David Solarz placed fourth with a score of 310.90.
Freshman Evan Reed placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.03. Fellow freshman Brad Hamilton swam to 11th place in the consolation final with a time of 45.87, just 13 hundredths off his season best time of 45.74.
In the men's 200-yard butterfly Tyler Harris finished fourth in 1:50.00 while Chip Peterson swam to 10th place in the consolation final with a time of 1:50.81.
Vinny Pryor took sixth place in the men's 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:55.23. Junior Jeff James placed tenth in 1:51.65.
In the final event of the meet, the men's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Brad Hamilton, Evan Reed, Tommy Wyher and Steve Cebertowicz placed sixth in 1:22.78.
The Tar Heels return to action next weekend on Saturday January 24 versus the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. The men's meet begins at 12 noon and can be viewed on ACC Select.
