Elizabeth Drazdowski, a rising junior on the North Carolina field hockey team, represented the U.S. as part of the Under-21 team at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, held Jan. 14-18 in Sydney.
The U.S. team fell 2-0 to India in the bronze medal game, with India scoring both of its goals in the final eight minutes of play. In addition to a previous 2-0 loss to India, the U.S. also fell to Great Britain 4-1 and to host Australia 4-0 in the four-team pool.
Drazdowski, a communication studies major who earned Dean's List honors for the fall semester, was in the starting lineup for two of the four games.
The festival, which included 1,500 athletes from 31 countries competing in 17 sports, kicked off on Jan. 14 with opening ceremonies. To read a story (in which Drazdowski is quoted) about the event, click here.
