CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Francis E. Henry Stadium will play host to the biggest college field hockey matchup of the 2009 regular season on Saturday when No. 1 Maryland and No. 2 North Carolina meet in a battle of unbeaten teams. The Tar Heels (15-0, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) host the Terrapins (16-0, 4-0 ACC) at 1 p.m. in a game that will decide the regular-season conference championship and award the top seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.
There is no charge for admission to Henry Stadium. Fans who can't be in the stadium can follow the action live on Gametracker.
Prior to the game, the Tar Heels will honor six players making their final regular-season appearances at Henry Stadium: seniors Melanie Brill, Illse Davids, Danielle Forword, Riley Foster and Brianna O'Donnell, as well as Casey Burns, who is a junior in eligibility but will graduate in May.
UNC has 11 shutouts this season, including a string of nine in a row that tied the ACC record for consecutive shutouts. The Tar Heels have allowed just four goals this season and just one - in a 2-1 overtime win over Virginia last Saturday - in conference play.
Senior Melanie Brill leads the Tar Heels in scoring with 17 goals and five assists for 39 points. Freshman Kelsey Kolojejchick has 13 goals and six assists for 32 points. Also in double-figures for goals is senior Danielle Forword, who has 11 on the season and needs just one more to move into a tie for 10th place on UNC's career goals chart. Junior Katelyn Falgowski leads the team in assists with 20, an average of 1.33 per game, the best in the nation.
In addition to topping the conference standings, Carolina and Maryland are first and second in the conference in scoring margin, scoring average, shots per game, goals scored and assists.
