Tar Heels Host Virginia, James Madison

The North Carolina field hockey team will host a pair of games at Francis E. Henry Stadium this weekend, with plenty of action on the field and off.

The top-ranked Tar Heels, 14-0 overall and 3-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, will host third-ranked Virginia on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Cavaliers are 11-1 overall and 1-1 in ACC play. The teams last met in the 2009 national semifinal, with UNC winning 3-2 on the way to an NCAA title.

On Sunday, UNC hosts James Madison for a 1 p.m. game. The Dukes are 8-7 on the season and receiving votes in the national coaches' poll.

The weekend has been dubbed "Turn it Pink" as part of a month-long community campaign to raise funds for the Comprehensive Cancer Support Program at the N.C. Cancer Hospital. UNC Lineberger Cancer Center will give away 500 pink pom-pons, and a local girl will run a pink lemonade stand - "Drink the Pink" - to raise funds for UNC Lineberger. Saturday is the annual Field Hockey Field Day event, beginning at 11 a.m. The fun includes inflatables (on the practice field behind Henry Stadium) and free cotton candy.

UNC Notes:
Senior goalkeeper Jackie Kintzer was honored as the ACC Player of the Week after the Tar Heels allowed a single goal in two games against ranked teams last weekend. UNC has given up just six goals - and never more than one in a game - in 14 outings this fall.
Sophomore Kelsey Kolojejchick leads UNC in scoring this season with 12 goals and also has five assists for 29 points. Sophomore Caitlin Van Sickle has scored nine goals and has four assists for 22 points. Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany, also a sophomore, has eight goals this fall. Freshman Marta Malmberg leads the Tar Heels in assists with 10.
