Funk Earns Hall Of Fame Induction

Xan Funk, who played field hockey at North Carolina from 2004-07 and served as an assistant coach in 2009, was inducted Saturday into the Chapel Hill High/ Lincoln High Hall of Fame. Funk was one of seven people inducted during the group's annual banquet.
At Chapel Hill High, from which she graduated in 2003, Funk was a four-year starter in field hockey, earning all-state honors on four occasions and all-state honors on three. She also played four years of basketball, twice-earning all-conference recognition.
At UNC, she redshirted in 2003 before lettering for four years. She was part of Atlantic Coast Conference championships in 2004 and 2007 and helped Carolina to a national title in 2007. As a senior, she shared the team's Marjorie Moses Schwab Unsung Hero Award.
In 2009, Funk was part of another NCAA crown, this time as the team's volunteer assistant coach.
Other Hall of Fame inductees were:
- Gordon Neville, a 1957 graduate who played basketball and baseball. He led the basketball team to a 23-0 record in 1957.
- Jake Reynolds, a 1999 graduate who set the state record with 173 career victory. He was the North Carolina wrestler of the year as a senior.
- Jack Maultsby, a 1950 graduate who played football, basketball and basebll. Played professionally for the Toronto Argonauts.
- Timothy Mann, a 1980 graduate who played football and track. He played football at Virginia Tech.
- Ron Benson, the current Chapel Hill boys and girls soccer coach. He has coached the Tigers for 30 years.
- Ron Olsen, the current Chapel Hill cross country and track track. His cross teams won boys state titles in 2002, 2005 and 2006. The girls won titles in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
