North Carolina field hockey players Kelsey Kolojejchick and Marta Malmberg earned their first international caps on Thursday and continue to compete for the U.S. National Team at the "Clash in the Capital," a five-game series against Argentina at American University in Washington, D.C. Play began May 13 and the final game of the series is Wednesday, May 19.
Kolojejchick, a rising sophomore, and Malmberg, an incoming freshman, are among six Tar Heels on the team. Joining them are goalkeeper Jackie Kintzer, a rising senior at UNC, and Carolina alums Rachel Dawson, Carrie Lingo and Amy Tran, all national team veterans. Kintzer earned her first cap with the team earlier this spring.
The U.S. opened play against Argentina, the second-ranked team in the world, on Thursday with a 1-1 tie. The home team fell 5-3 on Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday. Remaining games are this Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
