GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina freshman Kealia Ohai and Maryland junior Jasmyne Spencer have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week.
Ohai had a hand in both goals as the top-ranked Tar Heels battled second-ranked Stanford to a 2-2 tie last Friday and also scored in UNC's win over defending Big 12 champion Missouri.
Ohai, of Draper, Utah, had five points in two games as the Tar Heels earned the draw with No. 2 Stanford 2-2 and then blasted Missouri 6-1. The Tar Heels, playing without preseason All-Americans Rachel Givan and Ali Hawkins, trailed Stanford 1-0 before Ohai tied the game early in the second half with her second goal of the year. Then, after UNC again fell behind by a goal, Ohai assisted on Amber Brooks' score with less than 20 minutes to play to rally the Tar Heels for the second time in the match. Ohai then opened the scoring for UNC in the 31st minute as the Tar Heels scored a decisive 6-1 win over Missouri on Sunday.
Spencer also earned a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week (along with Boston College defender Hannah Cerrone and North Carolina forward Courtney Jones).
The ACC, which has five teams ranked among the Top 10 of this week's Soccer America poll, continues early-season play with another heavy schedule this week. Nineteen non-conference matches are scheduled over the next five days.
