Follow North Carolina senior Katelyn Falgowski as she represents the U.S. at the Pan American Games. A midfielder from Landenberg, Pa., she is one of four Tar Heels on the 16-player roster, joining UNC graduates Rachel Dawson, Jesse Gey and Amy Tran Swensen. Carolina alum Jackie Kintzer is an alternate to team.
The XVI Pan American Games will take place Oct. 19-28 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Eight teams will compete, with the winner earning a ticket to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
This will be the second Pan Am Games trip for Falgowski, a national team veteran who also represented the U.S. at the event in 2007. She is one of six 2008 Olympians named to the roster, with Dawson and Swensen also among that group.
Although there are other collegiate players on the team, Falgowski is the only one competing for her college team this fall. She played in the Tar Heels' game at Wake Forest on Sept. 30 then departed the next morning to join the U.S. tean for training. She will rejoin the Tar Heels for the Oct. 30 game at Old Dominion.
