Five Tar Heels Named To All-ACC Academic Team

p>GREENSBORO, N.C. - Five North Carolina field hockey players have been named to the 30-member All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Field Hockey team, announced Friday by ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford. Leading the group is Tar Heel graduate Elizabeth Drazdowski, who was the only player named to the team for the fourth time in her career.
Tar Heels honored in addition to Drazdowski, a communication studies major from Mountain Top, Pa., were: Teryn Brill (junior, journalism, Oley, Pa.), Taryn Gjurich (junior, journalism and political science, Hatfield, Pa.), Jackie Kintzer (senior, art, Robesonia, Pa.) and Marta Malmberg (freshman, psychology, Marathon, N.Y.) Kintzer and Malmberg were among nine players named to both the All-ACC and All-ACC Academic teams for 2010.
All six league teams were represented on the All-ACC Academic Team, with 2010 National Champion Maryland leading the conference with eight selections. Duke had seven student-athletes recognized. Boston College and national championship runner-up North Carolina each had five honorees. Wake Forest garnered three accolades, while Virginia had two.
Boston College's Janna Anctill was honored a the ACC Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
