CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Five North Carolina field hockey players have been named to the 2010 National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad, announced Wednesday by the NFHCA. Two Tar Heels - Elizabeth Drazdowski and Louise McNutt -- were honored for the fourth time in their careers. Joining them on the team were Drew Hayes, Meghan Lyons and Marta Malmberg.
The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.
Drazdowski and McNutt were seniors on the 2010 UNC team, which finished as the NCAA runner-up. Drazdowski is a communication studies major from Mountain Top, Pa., and earned her UNC degree in December. McNutt is a business administration major from Austin, Texas, and will graduate in May.
Lyons, a redshirt freshman for the 2010 season, was honored for the second year. True freshmen Hayes and Malmberg earned the honor for the first time. Malmberg is from Marathon, N.Y., and Hayes and Lyons both are from Wilmington, Del.
