Tar Heels Kick Off 2011 Preseason

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina field hockey team kicked off the 2011 preseason on Wednesday with its annual Welcome Dinner, held in the Kenan Stadium North Box. Student-athletes, families and staff gathered for pasta and chicken on the eve of the start of practice.
The Tar Heels take the field for the first time on Thursday morning, working toward the season opener on Aug. 27 at Michigan.
Missing from the dinner were senior Katelyn Falgowski and volunteer assistant coach Jesse Gey, both of whom are representing the U.S. in Europe as part of the National Team, as well as freshman Sophie Rudolph, who will join the team this weekend.
