Wold Named ACC Player Of The Week
October 24, 2012 | Field Hockey
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina freshman midfielder Emily Wold has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Wold, who is from Freehold, N.J., scored the game winner in overtime Saturday as North Carolina won at No. 6 Maryland, 4-3. Six minutes into the extra period, she got the ball at the top of the circle and maneuvered toward the cage, drawing the goalkeeper out so that she could push the ball into the net for the win.
Seeing action in the 12th game of her collegiate career, Wold also played strong defense for the top-ranked Tar Heels, who claimed the ACC regular-season title with the victory in College Park. The goal was her third of the season and the first gamewinner of her career.
The ACC regular season wraps up this weekend with six games, including two between conference opponents. The ACC Championship, scheduled for Nov. 1-4, will be held the following week at Francis E. Henry Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
