October 30, 2012 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL --- North Carolina will play its second and final exhibition game of the 2012-13 preseason Thursday when the Tar Heels host Division II opponent Wingate at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena. Wingate is coached by former Carolina assistant Ann Hancock, who is in her first year at the helm of her alma mater.
UNC looked very sharp in its opening exhibition, a 106-29 victory over Carson-Newman on Sunday. Krista Gross led all players with 15 points and 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes off the bench. Five other Tar Heels scored in double figures - Tierra Ruffin-Pratt (14), Waltiea Rolle (12), Xylina McDaniel (12), Brittany Rountree (11) and N'Dea Bryant (11).
Wingate is the preseason pick to win the South Atlantic Conference and is led by junior guard Janitsha Williams. The Bulldogs were 24-8 last season and won both the regular season and tournament championships in the SAC.
Admission to Thursday's game is free to all spectators.
