RIO GRANDE, P.R.
The North Carolina men's golf team carded a 305 in the final round for a 915 total and tied for 13th place at the Puerto Rico Classic. The Tar Heels were led by Bailey Patrick on Tuesday who fired an even par 72.
"It was good to see Bailey play well today, but despite that we played very poorly as a team," said Tar Heel head coach Andrew Sapp at the conclusion of the final round. "After a great few weeks of practice and qualifying I am surprised we didn't play better. We just need to work harder and start believing in ourselves. We have a lot of golf ahead of us."
Patrick, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., finished with a 9-over-par 225 total to tie for 46th place along with teammate Michael McGowan. McGowan, a junior from Southern Pines, N.C., carded a 5-over 77 in the final round as did redshirt junior Patrick Barrett. Barrett finished with a 230 total and tied for 62nd place. Junior Clark Palmer, from Augusta, Ga., and freshman Zack Munroe, from Charlotte, both shot a 7-over 79 on Tuesday and both tied for 62nd with 236 totals.

Clemson was the runner-up at 12-under 852 after carding a 5-under 283 in the final round. Host Purdue finished third at 8-under 856 while Georgia Tech finished fourth at 3-under 861 and NC State finished fifth at 1-under 863. There was a three-way tie for sixth place at 3-over 867 between Texas, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.

Talor Gooch of Oklahoma State was the runner-up at 9-under 207 after firing a 6-under 66 on Tuesday.
