Tar Heel Golfers Fourth At River Landing

WALLACE, N.C. - The North Carolina men's golf team fired a one-over-par 291 in the first round of the River Landing Intercollegiate and is in fourth place. Two Tar Heels, Michael McGowan and Brandon Dalinka, are tied for fifth place in the individual race.
McGowan, a junior from Southern Pines, N.C, and Dalinka, a freshman from Newtown, Pa., both fired a 1-under-par 71 on Friday. Freshman Bailey Patrick, from Charlotte, N.C. carded a 1-over 73 and is tied for 26th place. Patrick Barrett, a redshirt junior from Pinehurst, N.C., shot a 2-over 74 to tie for 32nd place while freshman Zack Munroe, from Charlotte, N.C., shot 75 and is tied for 42nd. Two Tar Heels, senior Matt Raudenbush and junior Clark Palmer, are competing as individuals and are tied for 14th place. Raudenbush, from Pine Valley, N.J., and Palmer, from Augusta, Ga, both fired an even par 72.
Liberty leads the field of 12 teams after firing a 5-under-par 283. NC State and Maryland are three strokes back in a tie for second place at 2-under 286 and the Tar Heels are another three shots back at 1-over 289. Duke is in fifth place at 3-over 291 while South Carolina is sixth at 293, Virginia Tech is seventh at 294 and VCU is eighth at 297.
Robert Karlsson of Liberty and Jordan Sweet of Maryland both fired a 4-under-par 68 to grab the individual lead. Michael Sutton of NC State and Jack Keefe of ECU (competing as an individual) are tied for third place at 2-under 70. Nine players, including Carolina's McGowan and Dalinka, are deadlocked in fifth place at 1-under 71.
The second round has begun, but will not be completed until Saturday morning followed by the final round. The 54-hole event is being played at River Landing's River Course which features a par 72, 6,904-yard layout.
