Ten Tar Heels Named To U.S. Squads

A total of 10 North Carolina field hockey players, including four who will be part of the 2012 UNC squad, were named to the U.S. National or Development Squads when those rosters were announced on Friday at the conclusion of the USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship in College Park, Md.
Named to the National Squad were Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski, Jesse Gey, Jackie Kintzer, Kelsey Kolojejchick, Amy Swensen and Emily Wold. Named to the Development Squad were Meghan Dawson, Marta Malmberg and Caitlin Van Sickle.
Kolojejchick and Van Sickle will be seniors at UNC this fall, while Malmberg will be a junior. Wold is an incoming freshman for the Tar Heels. The other six players selected are Carolina alums.
The announcement came at the conclusion of the USA Field Hockey event, which included 84 athletes who competed over the course of eight days.
On Monday, USA Field Hockey will announce the roster of 16 players who will represent the U.S. at the Olympic Games.
