UNC Golfers Selected To All-ACC Academic Teams

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina golfers Katherine Perry and Allie White were selected to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team while Bailey Patrick was chosen to the 2012 All-ACC Academic Men's Golf Team, ACC Commissioner John Swofford announced Monday. This was White's third appearance on the team as she was also chosen to the squad in 2009 and 2011.
Perry, a sophomore from Cary, N.C., was also selected to the 2012 All-ACC team and was named a 2012 NGCA (National Golf Coaches Association) All-America Honorable Mention. She played in 10 tournaments for the Tar Heels this year. After one top-30 finish last fall, a tie for 26th at the Cougar Classic, Perry turned it around this past spring with five top-20 and six top-30 finishes. Her top performance was a third-place finish at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate when she led the Tar Heels to a runner-up finish in the team race. She tied for eighth place at the NCAA Championships, finished 10th at the ACC Championships, tied for 10th at the LSU Golf Classic, tied for 16th at the Central District Invitational and tied for 30th at the Bryan National Collegiate. Perry has qualified to play in the 2012 U.S. Women's Open, her second appearance in that prestigious event, the other coming in 2009.
White, a senior from Lancaster, Ohio, played in all 10 of Carolina's tournaments this year. She carded six top-30 finishes including four in the top 20. Her top performance came at the ACC Championships where she placed sixth. This spring, she also tied for 10th place at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. White tied for 15th place at the Tar Heel Invitational, tied for 16th at the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview, tied for 22nd at the Cougar Classic and tied for 28th at the Central District Invitational. In 2009 and 2011, White was selected to the All-ACC team, named NGCA All-America Scholar in addition to being named to the All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team those years. She was also a 2009 Golfweek All-America Honorable Mention.
Patrick, a freshman from Charlotte, N.C., played in nine of Carolina's 11 tournaments and carded three top-30 finishes. He led the Tar Heels at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, tying for 19th place. He tied for 22nd at the Wolverine Intercollegiate, competing as an individual, and tied for 27th at the VCU Shootout. In his other outings, Patrick tied for 32nd at the ACC Championships and the Seminole Intercollegiate, tied for 46th place at the Puerto Rico Classic, tied for 51st at the USF Invitational, tied for 57th at the Rod Myers Invitational and tied for 60th at the River Landing Intercollegiate.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his/her academic career.
