UNC Picked Second In ACC Race

Seniors Kelsey Kolojejchick and Caitlin Van Sickle were named to the Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team and UNC has been predicted to finish second in the 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey race in voting by the league's head coaches, announced Friday by the ACC. Both Maryland and Carolina, which have met in the last three NCAA title games, received three first-place votes each. The Terrapins garnered a total of 23 points, while UNC was just behind with 22. Virginia was third with 15, Duke fourth with 14, Wake Forest fifth with 10 and Boston College sixth with six. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
Kolojejchick was the 2011 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, and Van Sickle was the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. They are joined on the team by Virginia's Elly Buckley, Jennifer Johnstone, Paige Selenski and Michelle Vittese; Maryland's Megan Frazer and Harriet Tibble; Wake Forest's Anna Kozniuk and Lizzie Rae, and Duke's Emmie Le Marchand.
Eight of the members on the preseason squad, including the UNC duo, were also on the 2011 All-ACC team.
The 2012 season gets underway Aug. 24th with Boston College, Duke, Maryland, and Virginia all in action. UNC and Wake Forest open on Aug. 25 at the ACC-Big Ten Challenge.
The 2012 ACC Field Hockey Championship will be held November 1, 2, and 4 at UNC's Francis E. Henry Stadium.
