U.S. Falls to Australia

The U.S. women's field hockey team fell 1-0 to Australia on Thursday in Group B play to put itself at 1-2 thus far in Olympic action. Three former Tar Heels – Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski and Amy Tran Swensen – are competing for the U.S. team in London.
Australia, which outshot the U.S. 14-7, scored on a penalty corner in the 33rd minute of play then held on for the win.

Meanwhile, South Africa – which includes former Tar Heel Illse Davids – fell 2-0 to Germany in Group B play.
Next up for the Americans is a matchup with New Zealand on Saturday, when South Africa meets Australia.
