UNC Ready For Home Opener
September 14, 2012 | Field Hockey
After playing its first six games of the season away from Chapel Hill, the top-ranked North Carolina field hockey team will open its home slate on Friday, hosting No. 8 Old Dominion for a 6 p.m. game at Francis E. Henry Stadium.
There is no charge for admission to the game. Those in attendance will receive a copy of the 2012 Carolina Field Hockey poster, and students will be eligible to compete in a pizza-eating contest at halftime.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
The Tar Heels are 5-1 on the season, with the one blemish a 1-0 overtime loss at Syracuse on Sept. 1. Even with that shutout, the Tar Heels leads the nation in goals per game with 5.33 and are also tops in scoring margin at 4.77.
Eleven players on the UNC roster have scored at least one goal this season, and senior Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany leads the way with six. Sophomore Samantha Travers is just behind with five, all scored in last weekend's two games, a performance that earned her recognition as Co-ACC Player of the Week. (Gaudioso Radvany claimed the ACC honor for the first week of the season.) Senior Kelsey Kolojejchick leads the team in assists with nine and also had four goals for a team-high 17 points.
