UNC Hosts Wake Saturday At Noon
September 28, 2012 | Field Hockey
The North Carolina field hockey team will play its first Atlantic Coast Conference home game of the season on Saturday, hosting Wake Forest at noon. The game originally was scheduled for 1 p.m., but has been moved up based on the schedule of events in what will be a busy Saturday on campus.
Fans should be aware that there will be parking changes due the football game vs. Idaho at 3:30 p.m. (For complete Football Game Day parking information, click here.) Parking will be available in the football public lots, the most convenient of which will be the Manning Lot adjacent to the Dean Smith Center and UNC Family Practice. The cost for parking in that lot is $10. Town bus service will be available on the U Bus, which will drop off fans at the intersection of Stadium Drive and Ridge Road, a short distance to the main gates at Henry Stadium. There is no charge for the bus, and return service is available from the same location. U Bus service begins at 10:30 a.m.
UNC is 10-1 following a 6-0 win at Davidson on Tuesday evening. The Tar Heels had been ranked No. 1 but fell to No. 2 in this week's coaches' poll as undefeated Syracuse, which beat UNC 1-0 in overtime on Sept. 1, took over the top spot in the voting.
The Tar Heels won 2-1 at Wake Forest on Sept. 16. The teams choose to play twice each year, even though only one game counts in ACC competition. For 2012, the game in Chapel Hill is the one that will show up in the conference standings.
Sophomore Charlotte Craddock scored both goals in the win in Winston-Salem, putting UNC up 2-0 in the first 17 minutes of the game. Wake's goal was by Anna Kuzniuk, the 2011 ACC Freshman of the Year, and came with three minutes remaining in the game.
UNC is back in action at Henry Stadium on Sunday, hosting Virginia Commonwealth at 1 p.m.
