CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina volleyball program partnered with Get Real & Heel and UNC's Lineberger Center to raised more than $3,700 for breast cancer awareness at its annual Turn It Pink match last Friday.
"We were honored to hold our annual Turn It Pink night and to be a part of national breast cancer awareness month," head coach Joe Sagula said. "We're excited to announce that we raised $3,704 so far from Friday's event. We're honored to have the opportunity to help raise awareness for breast cancer and to support Get Real & Heel and the Lineberger Center."
The Tar Heels wore pink jerseys to face Duke on Oct. 11, which were auctioned off with a minimum bid of $75.
In addition to the jersey bidding, pink Carolina volleyball t-shirts were sold, as well as pink socks and wristbands.
Additional pink Carolina volleyball shirts will be on sale through Chapel Hill Sportswear, located at 119 East Franklin St., Chapel Hill, N.C. 27514. Contact the store at 919-929-0060 for more information.
All proceeds from the event will be given to Get Real & Heel, a program through the university that serves breast cancer patients in North Carolina.
Get Real & Heel integrates individualized prescriptive exercise with wellness services to provide a program that strengthens the patient's body and mind. Get Real & Heel develops individualized plans that help each participant manage cancer treatment related symptoms and increase chances of survivorship and quality of life. Because of grant support, this program is currently provided to individuals free of charge.
