UNC Plays Final Regular Season Game Saturday At Syracuse
November 1, 2013 | Field Hockey
The North Carolina field hockey team, ranked third in this week's national poll, wraps up the regular season on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at No. 2 Syracuse. The teams are meeting for the third year in a row, but this matchup is the first time they'll face off as Atlantic Coast Conference rivals.
Syracuse, 14-2 overall and 3-2 in its first season of ACC play, will celebrate Senior Day prior to Saturday's game at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The Orange is sporting a 44-game winning streak on its home field.
UNC is a part of that streak. The teams played twice last year, with host Syracuse winning the first matchup 1-0 in overtime on Sept. 1, 2012, at Coyne Stadium. It was UNC's only loss of the regular season. The teams met again in the NCAA semifinals, with Carolina winning 6-1.
Carolina heads into the game with a 14-3 overall record. Like Syracuse, Carolina is 3-2 in ACC play. Carolina's most recent outing was a 3-2 overtime loss at Old Dominion last Sunday.
Next up for both teams is the ACC Tournament Nov. 7, 8 and 10 at Boston College.
