Wold Named South Region Player Of The Year

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Six North Carolina players have earned All-South Region honors and sophomore Emily Wold has been named the South Region Player of the Year, as announced Tuesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Named to the 2013 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-South Region first team along with Wold were junior Charlotte Craddock and sophomore Nina Notman. Named to the All-South Region second team were senior Sinead Loughran and sophomores Emma Bozek and Casey Di Nardo.
Wold, a midfielder from Freehold, N.J., leads the nation in assists with 23 and is second on the UNC team in scoring with 35 points this season. In addition to her assists total, she has six goals, two of them gamewinners. Named to the South Region first team for the second year in a row, she also has earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference and All-ACC Tournament honors this fall.
Craddock, a forward from Wolverhampton, England, also earned first-team honors for the second year. An All-America selection in 2012, she has been named All-ACC the past two years and ranks third on the UNC roster in goals with 12. A team-best five of her goals have been gamewinners.
Notman, a midfielder from Hamburg, Germany, earned the All-Region honor in her first season on the team. Also an All-ACC honoree, she leads the Tar Heels in goals with 15 and in points with 37.
Loughran, a forward from Dublin, Ireland, has scored five goals and added six assists for the team this season. She broke her hand in UNC's ACC quarterfinals matchup with Wake Forest and missed the next two games, but returned to the field for UNC's NCAA first and second round games.
Bozek, a midfielder from Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., has five goals and four assists for UNC this season.
Di Nardo, a forward from Virginia Beach, Va., ranks second on the team in goals with 14 and also has two assists.

Other Region Players of the Year are: Jill Witmer, Maryland (Mid-Atlantic); Marie Elena Bolles, Connecticut (Mideast); Emma Plasteras, Boston College (Northeast); and Rachael Mack, Michigan (West).
The No. 3 Tar Heels, 18-5 on the season, will meet No. 4 Connecticut Friday in the NCAA Championship semifinals in Norfolk, Va. The UNC-UConn game is the second semifinal and is set for 4:45 p.m., following the matchup between No. 1 Maryland and No. 5 Duke at 2 p.m. The NCAA Championship final is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday.
