March 12, 2013 | Field Hockey
Five Tar Heels helped the U.S. National Women's Field Hockey team to a 6-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday to advance to the World League Round 3 tournament. The U.S. was 4-1 in the World League Round 2 tournament, played in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Carolina players competing for the U.S. were Rachel Dawson, Katelyn Falgowski, Jackie Kintzer, Kelsey Kolojejchick and Emily Wold. Wold, the 2012 ACC Freshman of the Year, is a rising sophomore at UNC. The other four have already finished their playing careers with the Tar Heels.
World League Round 3, to be held in London in June, will be the U.S.'s first chance to earn a spot in the 2014 World Cup field. Second-place Chile also advanced.
